The District Governor : District 9211

RtnJayesh Asher,

On behalf of the members of Rotary Club of Kampala North, I take this honour to welcome you to this fellowship on your official visit to our club.

We were very honoured that you made time to officiate at the official hand over of medical teleconference equipment to one of our partners, and that you made time to witness the operations of the Teleconference Facility at the Makerere College of Health Sciences, one of our model projects that Rotary has delivered in this country.

The Rotary Club of Kampala North (RCKN) was admitted by Rotary International on June 21, 1988 and subsequently received its Charter on August 06, 1988. We recently celebrated 28 years of dedicated service to humanity.

The Club is limited Company limited by guarantee and is run in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association and our By-laws, as well as other Guidelines and Regulations. Widely described as a highly structured club, RCKN in all its operations strives to work within approved club guidelines.

With the recent changes we plan to analyses our by-laws and other club Guidelines and Policies to ensure we comply with changes that are happening at RI level. We will be mindful of what is good for RCKN and what will contribute to the attainment of our Strategic Plan goals.

The Club has a membership of 86 members, of whom 35% are female. Our annual growth over the past 5 – 7 years has been approximately 10% with only a few members leaving due to various reasons, giving the club a steady growth. Our average range is around 40years and he club continues to attract young members.

Gender; numbers and quality, leadership of women in the club, youngest members are women.

RCKN has diverse classifications, but lacks some key professions and occupations that typically represent the community around us.

The Club has consistently held a rich and impactful profile of service projects that has won us several recognitions. Empowering Communities, Changing Lives is our motto that guides all the work we undertake in the communities.

RCKN participates in the activities of the Rotary Foundation by both giving to the Foundation and through the various Global Grants projects that we run. We however need to promote more giving across the membership even if it is in small amounts. We will definitely deliver 100% on the usd 26.5 as we celebrate TRF Centennial. We will strive to meet this year’s TRF target of usd 40,000 and usd 2,000 towards Polio Plus.

The club is picking up in the area Rotary extension where over the last number of years we haven’t done as well as we ought to. We have two clubs in formation, the Rotary Club of Lugogo Mango Tree; a club formed within the comfort of its members, with a good composition of former Rotaractors and Rotarians; as well as the Rotaract Club of Kampala North – Musical; some kind of thematic club.

We have planned to deliver to the 92nd DCA in Arusha no less than 50 delegates.

We are working our usual hard way to ensure we respond and contribute to the attainment in the key target areas of supporting the Rotary Foundation, Membership growth and in building the Rotary brand by showcasing the good deeds of Rotarians.

Leadership development, mentorship, encouraging members to be active in all club activities is one way we will ensure Rotary growth through one on one mentorship direct training. We make use of the work of the Rotary Leadership Institute. Over 25 members have been trained, 12 of our members serve as RLI Faculty members. The Country Trainer is a member of this club. We endeavor to have very educative and interesting weekly fellowship as our way of accountability for that one hour plus that our members and guests donate to us weekly.

Our club attendance club target is 90%.

This is something worth telling, while we are describes as a structured and a very strict club, when it comes to play we also take that very passionately. You have seen us on stage with an ensemble of Past District Governors, Past Assistant Governors, Past presidents, Presidents putting up world class dance shows. We even use our love for dance to raise money to serve Humanity. And it’s on that note that I would like you to most especially invite you and all the Tanzania Clubs to take part in this year’s annual Rotary Singing and Dancing competition on November 12th. We will be Rotary will be Singing and Dancing to Serve Humanity.
